Redefining Value, One Handmade Craft at a Time
Utsa Isn’t Just an NGO or a Charitable Ecommerce Platform
The primary purpose of Utsa is to show the world that women in remote villages can dare to dream to big. All they need is a little push, a little collaboration from the ones living a relatively modern life in the cities.
However, we also manufacture handicrafts that can compete on a global stage. Each Asan, each candle is meticulously made by the women of Jara with care, skill and a rich legacy.

The “Why” of Utsa – Why This Initiative Exists
The “why” of Utsa truly hits home for us, Dhriti and Ishita. It’s about leveling the playing field, something we’ve come to understand intimately. Our family, the Roys, have deep roots – seven generations deep – in Jara, West Bengal.
Once our family moved to bigger cities, we got access to opportunities, markets across the nation… So many avenues.
The women who are left in Jara – are equally skilled. This initiative is our humble attempt at democratising their access to the markets.
Buy From Utsa Not as a Charity – Buy Because We Provide Authentic Handicrafts That Speak The Language of Bengal and India
At Utsa, we believe true empowerment happens when artistry can drive value for the buyers. Buyers should be able to get value for every paisa they spend. Products sold by the women of Jara are authentic and 100% handmade. Our artisans, predominantly rural women, pour generations of tradition and skill into each piece, creating handicrafts that are not only beautiful but also tell a story—the vibrant, soulful language of Bengal.
